LOOPS
Atmosphere Loops
Use to add depth and mood. Subtle, evolving textures can fill space without distracting from the core groove. Automate filters or reverb for movement across sections. Maybe filter out low end at around 100hz with a 12db/oct filter to avoid muddy bass. This can be done with the Ableton stock plugin EQ8.
Basslines
Select dark, rolling, or gritty basslines that lock tightly with the kick. Repetition is key—focus on maintaining momentum rather than melody. Filter sweeps and subtle distortion help shape the tone. For more rumble and warehouse feel add a reverb with 3 seconds revereration time and a lowpass filter on top - make sure to reduce the stereo width under 120hz to zero to avoid bass phase cancellations.
Beat Loops
A quick way to sketch rhythmic ideas or layer additional groove. Use as-is for inspiration or slice and rearrange to add your own swing and structure. Also good for distorting them according to the energy of your track and overtone amount you want, then filter out the bass and layer your own kick and bass on top.
Chord Loops
Great for injecting harmonic identity and melancholic depth. Short stabs or longer pads—either way, keep it moody and minimal. Delay and reverb are essential for blending these into the mix. You can create an interesting chord synth line by filtering it up and down before the delay and reverb effect in the effect chain.
Clap Loops
Accentuate the rhythm, especially on offbeats. Choose dry, snappy layers for punch or use heavily processed versions to add width and texture. Don’t overdo it—subtle is often better. Go Truncate style by putting the clap on the kick for a while. Pro Tip: If the clap doesn't come through in the mix, try pulling it forward in the timeline for just a few milliseconds up to 30 milliseconds - then you don't need to raise the volume but it appears louder.
Fx Loops
Ideal for transitions or background movement. Use sparingly to prevent clutter. Filtering and volume automation can help these breathe and evolve within the track. If the effect loop is like a constant noise or hum, then apply a side-chain compressor and feed the kick in to create a pumping effect.
Groove Loops
These are intended for inspiration because they are very full already - don't use them as they are - try to layer things on top and once it is too full remove the original Groove loop and you will have your own groove going. Or use it in film sound as background music.
Hihat Loops
Use to fill the upper area of the frequency spectrum with rhythm. Choose fast, tight hats for energy, or looser ones for a laid-back swing. Careful EQ and stereo placement are key. For minimalistic Techno tracks use a short dry gated 909 style hihat and no 16th hihat.
Kickdrum Loops
Useful for sketching ideas quickly or replacing static kicks. Make sure they’re clean and punchy. Avoid overlapping low-end frequencies when layering with bass. Often putting a sidechain compressor on a rumbling bassline with the kick fed into it helps to have a good definition in the bass.
Percussion Loops
Use to add character and rhythm. Mechanical or tribal, these loops should sit just behind the main drums. Subtle automation can keep them feeling alive. Try to tune it up and down a few halftones with the "drum time stretch algorithm" to keep the transients.
Ride Loops
Perfect for peak sections to build intensity or to replace a lead synth which just went out of the track. Keep them tight and consistent. Watch the high frequencies and use EQ to avoid harshness or clashing. If you want more intensity but not more volume try to saturate or even distort it.
Snare Loops
Use to build momentum or fill space in midrange. Repetitive snare patterns can add tension or groove when layered subtly beneath other drums. Snare rolls can build up to a climax in your track, but is used mostly in more commercial oriented genres.
Synth Loops
Modulation and filtering help maintain interest. Blend with effects for a more atmospheric presence. Mostly it works best to use a saturation to set the intensity of the sound, then a lowpass filter to blend it in and out smoothly and last in the effect chain should be other effects like chorus, delay, reverb etc.
Top Loops
These add crisp, high-end rhythm to your drums or just the missing elements. Use to make flat grooves more energetic and full. Layer carefully to avoid clashing with hats and rides. Feel free to filter out low end, hi frequencies or pretty much any frequency to make space for your other elements.
ONESHOTS
Chord Oneshots
Use to build your own stab sequences or rhythmic textures. Apply delay, reverb, and filtering to shape space and tonality. Best used minimally but rhythmically.
Clap Oneshots
Drop them on the 2 and 4 for basic structure, or use off-grid for swing. Clean and tight or saturated and wide—choose based on your track’s mood.
Fx
Transition tools—sweeps, crashes, glitches, and stabs. Use automation to shape their impact. Layer subtly beneath main elements to enhance tension without clutter.
HiHat Oneshots
Essential for groove-building. Closed hats define rhythm; open hats create tension and release. Experiment with velocity and spacing for dynamic results.
Kickdrum Oneshots
Choose hard-hitting, clean kicks as the foundation. Low-end clarity and consistent punch are critical. Don’t be afraid to EQ or layer for more body.
Noises
Add raw, industrial texture. Machine sounds, static, and filtered noise can bring life to minimal arrangements. Best used as background layers or subtle rhythmic hits.
Percussion Oneshots
Build unique grooves using metallic, wooden, or synthetic hits. Layer with top loops or sequence individually. Panning and reverb help place them in the stereo field.
Snaredrum Oneshots
Use for transitions, rolls, or mid-groove accents. Choose snappy or dirty snares depending on the vibe. Tweak envelope and pitch to fit your groove.
Can’t complain, love the sounds love a freebie
